DIAMOND GRINDING WHEEL

WHEEL TRUEING TOOLS

A major breakthrough in truing / dressing resin diamond and CBN wheels-tests resulted in wheels trued with .0005" flatness without coolant and without removing the wheel from the machine.

                    1/4 x 1-3/4 - use on wheels with up to 1/4 width of diamond or CBN             #1909 - $79.00

                    3/8 x 1-3/4 - use on wheels with up to 3/8 width of diamond or CBN             #1910 - $181.50

                    1/2 x 2 - use on wheels with up to 5/8 width of diamond or CBN                    #1911 - $349.25

                     5/8 x 2 - use on large wheels including centerless (use on O.D. of tool)       #1912 - $463.50

Step by Step guide

Gidco-Foulkes Trueing Tool on Resinoid Bonded Diamond and CBN wheels.

A wheel trued in this manner will exhibit excellent cutting action on work pieces and leave a correct surface (on accordance with the grit size of the Diamond/CBN wheel).

Step 1.   Place trueing tool in holder. Expose not more than 1/2" of trueing tool (on radius dresser             more is allowed.).

Step 2.   Turn off woke light to better observe active sparking interface. Turn off coolant.

Step 3.   Set up feed (tool travel) to move at a moderate to fast speed, an active sparking interface is the desired effect. Excessive tool wear will be the result of a slow feed setting.

Step 4.   Set up downfeed using the chart below. Correct downfeed is determined by the hardness and grit size of the wheel. It's importnt to note at this point that more is better when it comes to calculating the downfeed of the wheel to be trued. DO NOT "BABY" the tool! Cautious downfeeding of the wheel to be trued will simply wear away the trueing tool with no positive effect to the Diamond/CBN wheel.

Maximum downfeed (or infeed)

              100 grit or coarser..................................................................   .004"

              180 to 280 grit........................................................................   .003"

               320 grit and finer...................................................................   .002"

Step 5.   Allow Gidco-Foulkes trueing Tool to make several passes (2-3) at this position. Trueing in one direction only will leave a crown on wheel.

Step 6.   Reduce the downfeed of the wheel with each set of 3 passes across the wheel, for example by going from .001 - .0005- and then to .0002 until the wheel is trued. A wheel trued in this manner will exhibit excellent cutting action on work pieces and leave a correct surface finish (in accordance with the grit size of the Diamond/CBN wheel).

Centerless Wheels   For the trueing of centerless diamond wheels use the 5/8" diameter tool and feed tool through its outer diameter as if it were a workpiece. Use feeds as outlined in step 4.

Note:   Always wear eye protection and use good grinding practices regarding ventilation.
